Hi all,

I've been getting this error on occasion recently.

- Information technology's a shared certificate
- There is usually 10-12 people using the file at the same fourth dimension

I've read on the Microsoft Help site that the effect is that somebody is accessing the file while some other is trying to open information technology.

Is there a way, perhaps through VBA, that I can not allow a user to salve while somebody else is opening the document? Other suggestions on how to avoid this mistake?

Thanks!

I did a bit of browsing on this problem. Institute others suffering the aforementioned but haven't institute whatsoever conclusive answer yet.

Every and then frequently when I endeavor to salvage a file, (including save every bit), Excel won'r let me. By won't allow me I mean:

using Salve doesn't announced to do anything using Save As doesn't either practice anything, the dialog is not displayed and if I am doing via the File bill of fare so the File menu is exited and the previous ribbon tab is displayed (i.ethe one I was on before clicking 'File') if I shut the workbook I am prompted to save, close without saving or cancel. Clicking salve just invokes the same msgbox again. I can't piece of work out when it goes into this style. Some days I can work without this problem, other days I encounter this 2 or three times.

The but thing I could suspect was I think this started around almost the time I installed xlDennis' code library. I have uninstalled the addin and so far and then good, only I cannot categorically say that this was the crusade.

Anyone accept any idea?

Cheers
Jon

I'm having a trouble in a workbook with several ActiveX command buttons. I had been using the course control buttons to run macros, but the boss wanted each push to have it's own, different color. So I removed the form command buttons and created new ActiveX control buttons. I got into the push properties and set the background colors. I added the _Click lawmaking to run the macros when the user clicked the buttons.

All of the buttons were working fine. Then I saved and closed the workbook and went to lunch. At present when I open the workbook, the buttons don't piece of work! When I click them aught happens. They appear frozen. They don't even seem to click. No error message. Nothing.

If I correct-click the button in Design Style and select Backdrop, I get sail backdrop non the button properties. I can't seem to locate the control button properties any longer. I still meet the push button proper name "cmdButtonGetInfo" and "=EMBED("Forms.CommandButton.1","") in the name box and formula bar. The odd thing is if I create a new push it works fine until I save and close the file. When I reopen the file none of the buttons work.

It'due south like the buttons are being disabled when I shut or open up the file. Whatever suggestions?

I have workbook in which I want to save a specific worksheet to a new file with only the values saved - all data in this worksheet are references to cells on another worksheet, which is using VLOOKUP to pull data from a database.

Constitute the following lawmaking and it gets me shut, but information technology copies the prison cell references, not the values. It too allows me to specify the file name from a cell reference.

I want the new workbook file to merely be saved, not opened, and a message box to brandish stating where the file was saved (will always exist in the same location on the LAN).

What modifications do I make to this to go this to work per above requirements?

Sub CopyMe()
Dim SaveMeAs As String
SaveMeAs = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("B2").Text
Sheets("Sheet3").Copy
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="C:\My Documents\" & SaveMeAs
Terminate Sub

I know this question has been asked a bajillion times, so I apologize for the redundancy.

I am working with an Excel spreadsheet and saving information technology equally a .csv file in order to upload to an application that parses out the .csv data as transactions. The system requires .csv files, so this is how I need to salve my doc (with this extension). I take been successful at preventing Excel from coverting that long number into scientific format. I have saved as a TXT file, pasted the longer number and it displays correctly. That is all good. Simply I have to save as a .csv. And then if I do that, close the Excel window, and so open again (as the .csv file), the numbers are back to beingness displayed in scientific format. I take tried creating an Excel doc from scratch and entering text in Text format, to see if this created a cleaner file. Just once more, the second I save as .csv, close the window and and so open up that file upwardly once again, that dang scientific format is back.

Does anyone have any idea of how to piece of work effectually this? Once I take successfully gotten the numbers to brandish as the long-concatenation number, how tin I go them to "stick" so that they don't revert back to scientific format when I reopen the file?

Cheers and then much for your help!

Excel 2002 spreadsheet and information technology has disappeared.

I saved it routinely as I was making many changes updates etc. I opened

Today, when I go to open stuff.xls, it is nowhere to be constitute!!!!! I have
washed a search, for any file modified since Thurs and goose egg has appeared. I
have checked the recycle bin, this did non get into machine recover nothing of
the like. I am just traumatized, considering I have NEVER had anything like this
happen earlier.

I fifty-fifty thought perhaps I didn't save it as often as I thought, (I know that
I did) but I remembered that I saved it at to the lowest degree once and I tin can't even find
an Excel file that has been modified since Thurs!!!

Does anyone accept whatever idea what could have happened to this file?? BTW, I
accept prayed, rebooted, run spybot, called witch doctor, all with no success.

I take never had a file to just disappear with no trace. Any help would be

Hello,

I take a number of dissimilar files that I oft need to run a macro on. In order for me to practice it on the 75-100 files I accept at any given time, I need to open 1, run the macro, close and save, then open the next one.

Is it possible to write a macro that will start with the first file in a folder, open information technology and update links, run a macro, save and close, and open the next file in the binder until it has open all the files in the folder.

I have experience with creating macros that reference different workbooks, but not sure how to go about opening files with dissimilar filenames (without referencing the exact filename).

I'd like to be able to take basic code for opening, saving and closing, opening adjacent file, saving and closing, etc. and input the macro I'd need to run in each file in the appropriate location. Is this possible? Whatever help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,
Jason

I take an excel form, I want my users to be able to open the class, fill in appropriate data, then click the relieve button. When the button is clicked, the data in the class should be saved to a new file and so the original form should be reset (articulate all values) for a new fix of data entry. When the data is saved, I want the new excel sail to be saved to a location specified within the macro and so the user doesn't have any options and I want the title of the new file to be the value of one of the cells.

I'm new to macros and would appreciate any help this board can offer. Thanks...

I accept a large spreadsheet in Excel 2007. I am converting it to a .csv file to import in to another plan. I need to delete all commas from all data.

When I try to supplant all commas (with zilch or with another character), I get the error message "The formula y'all typed contains an error."

I have tried various formats (text, general, etc.) and various file types (.xls,.xlsx, .csv) and still get the same error.

I have a VBMacro Excel file loaded on a Server that numerous people access. A Macro in this file creates a Copy of a specific Sheet within the Active Workbook and I want to Save it to the private's Desktop.

How do I find out what the electric current User'southward desktop folder path is each time the Marco is run by a different User?

Example User's path: 'C:\Documents and Settings\jfarc\Desktop'

Where 'jfarc' is the name of the current User which, will of course change with every dissimilar User that runs the Macro.

Too, is there a way to pull out of Excel what is the current User's 'Options | Full general | Default File Location' entry? Which may differ from the above directory.

I am familiar with and use the following coding for Opening/Saving files to the electric current directory of the opened workbook, but it just gives the path of the existing Excel workbook and not the electric current User'south Directory Path:

Dim wbThis Every bit Workbook
Set wbThis = ThisWorkbook
ChDir wbThis.Path

I have a file that became too large due to phantom bloat, unused range saved past Excel and all that kind of reasons. Thank to previous posts on that lath tackling that issue, I was able to find how to go on to reduce the file back to its normal size.
Merely I did and so in a beta file (test file). The real file has become so big (103MB!) that Excel cannot even open it anymore! The file contains archive info that nosotros do not take anywhere else.
Is at that place anyhow then to open the file or to reduce its size without opening it (through magics...)? I just honestly don't know how to retrieve that info earlier deleting that file.

Give thanks you very much for your help.

I'grand trying to open up a pdf file from inside excel vba. I have tried using the followhyperlink method but adobe acrobat opens very briefly then immediately closes Code:

Sub OpenPDF() 'Dim pdf Every bit String On Error Resume Next 'pdf file to open up pdf = "K:\PDF\mypdf.pdf" 'open the pdf file ActiveWorkbook.FollowHyperlink pdf End Sub

So and so I tried to create an instance of acrobat by setting a reference to the acrobat object merely I can't get this to work either!

The code I'm using is Lawmaking:

Sub OpenPDF() Dim pdf Equally AcroPDDoc Dim strPDF As String Set up pdf = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc") 'pdf file to open up strPDF = "Yard:\PDF\mypdf.pdf" 'open the pdf file pdf.Open strPDF Stop Sub

How-do-you-do everyone!!!!

Here is my situation. I have been trying to learn macros but have not made i yet. Need your help. Here at piece of work, I have some incompentant computer workers who merits they KNOW MS sooo well and have certificates etc... *COUGH Coughing* ya ok... LMAO

Nosotros have a "shared" work volume nosotros all piece of work in. It's nothing fancy, only use it as a PO Book but since information technology is shared some people continue to non save before they add in more work so that they see a "refreshed" copy of the workbook before they start writing in cells that already contain data.

How to I create a macro push at the top of the page that is literally a Relieve push.. instead of them saving by going to File - Save or cntrl+southward ??? I merely thought that Possibly having a big button in their face will remind them.

Secondly as back upward I was wondering if you lot can create a macro to exercise a refresh of everyones screens automatically - say every 2 or 5 mins??? I don't mean a save... but a refresh and so the screen actually updates in forepart of you. (although I will keep this little piece of magic out of their knowledge then they don't rely on it, just though it would be a secondary support to helping eliminate these mishaps crusade we are loosing alot of information by people saving overtop of other peoples work and not caring.)

Thank you and then much!!!!! Muchly appriciated.

Is it possible to share a workbook with macros and have the macros work properly. I have one spreadsheet that needs to be shared past many users. We want to all be in the same certificate at the same time saving changes. The real catch is that the workbook has macros. I used the 'Share Workbook' function under tools. At the end of the setup, it told me that the macros would not work properly. The odd thing is that everytime I try to click on one of the macros I get an error, merely yet the macro still performs the function. Then essentially the macro works, it is simply a pain because you have to click 'end' everytime on the fault screen. Any suggestions?

Dear Sirs,

Am in demand for this solution very desperately and what could be a ameliorate place than excelforum !

I have an MS Excel File (2007 version) sample file attached, which has name, designation, claret group then on. The concluding column is for hyperlinking photographs of individuals.

In the same folder where I have saved this excel file, are lying photographs of individuals. While scanning the photographs, I have saved them serially i.e. 1,ii,3 and so on.

In the Excel file, in last column, I have given the respective serial numbers. In order to hyperlink 1 has to select that particular Cell, press Ctrl Grand and you automatically go to the folder containing individual photographs, you lot select that photo and OK.

Problem :

I take to exercise this hyperlinking one by 1 and if there 1000 photos, lot of time is wasted.

Solution Needed :

But in case of excel formula, which we copy and paste, Can I go a command by virtue of which the cavalcade titled Photo or column next to it gets automatically Hyperlinked to respective photo WHEN I copy and paste such command to all cells in that column.

Thanks a one thousand thousand and warm regards ::: Jack

I have a co-worker's file that he is having trouble with. He is using Excel 2000 SP3. When copying a jail cell with a formula in it of "=D6+C6" and pasting it into the next prison cell downwardly, it volition display the same value in the cell equally the calculated value from to a higher place, but has the right formula displayed in the formula bar of "=D7+C7".

Instance:
A1: 50
A2: 10
B1: 60
B2: 20

A3: Formula: =A1+A2 Displays: 60
Right click A3, Copy, right click B3, paste
A3 displays sixty

When I click salve, information technology will change the display value to 80.

I am trying this on his workstation and mine. Mine has Office 2010, so I recall at that place might be an issue with the file itself.

Also, not just copy and paste. I tin can also simply click the top cell later on filling in the formula and then drag the bottom right of the cell down and it volition do the aforementioned of filling in the right formula, merely have the incorrect value.

I know that I could get him to just click save each time before really looking at the results, but that is merely a band help to the trouble.

Any ideas how to fix this?
